Chocolate Bar Set for "Origin Stories - Bến Tre, Vietnam"

Dandelion Chocolate

Taste six distinctive bars made of beans from Bến Tre, during a lively and informative virtual talk. We'll chat with Vincent Mourou, who sources beans and makes chocolate in Vietnam, and with the makers of all six bars.

Be part of the conversation with Greg D’Alesandre, our Bean Sourcerer and your host on the topic of single-origin chocolate, alongside those who know the beans and chocolate best: the cocoa producer and chocolate makers from throughout the industry.

This set includes single-origin bars from six chocolate makers, with instructions to join this month's discussion — one of a monthly series pairing conversation and chocolate tasting.

Ingredients & Allergens

This selection of chocolate from Dandelion and other chocolate makers is all dark chocolate; however, some makers may have processed their bars on machinery that also processes milk chocolate or chocolate with additional ingredients. If you have an allergy, we have linked to each company, so feel free to research your specific restriction. We strongly suggest looking at the labels, and while there are no substitutions, we recommend passing any bars you are unable to eat along to a friend.

All Dandelion Chocolate single-origin chocolate bars are made with just cocoa beans and sugar; no added cocoa butter, lecithin, or vanilla. Our chocolate is free of soy, dairy, eggs, and gluten, and it is made in a factory that does not process nuts.

*All other chocolate bars may be made in a facility that processes dairy, tree nuts (almonds and hazelnuts), and wheat.

About Bến Tre, Vietnam

These beans are produced by two small-scale fermenters, Mr. Son and Ms. Ban. Marou has been working with them for many years. Each fermenter buys cacao pods from their neighbors, purchasing from around 60 small farmers in total. They then ferment the beans in linear boxes and dry them on elevated mesh decks. The Marou team inspects and purchases the best beans, and then blends them for consistency.

This last step is a key factor for beans we use at Dandelion, as it helps ensure we keep flavors consistent within a single harvest. In 2018, we purchased three tonnes of beans from Marou, and made them into chocolate the next year. On a return trip to Vietnam in 2019, we brought a few bars with us to share. It was a joy to see the pride on Ms. Ban’s face when she tasted the chocolate, as she had helped to make our Bến Tre bar possible.
